Solar Lamps

Approximately 1 in 4 people around the world do not have access to electricity, leaving them without light at night. Many people use kerosene lamps, however the kerosene is an expensive ongoing cost, and many accidental fires are caused with the open flame. In addition, the gas produced by burning kerosene is harmful, and is frequently inhaled by children and adults working close to the light. However, solar lamps provide an excellent alternative, and your team can provide these to families and communities in countries like Vanuatu, Cambodia or Vietnam. Some benefits of solar light include:

  • Increased light means increased working hours, so more income can be produced.
  • The money spent on kerosene can now be spent on education and other necessities.
  • Increased light means that young people can study in the evening.
  • Crime is typically reduced when light is brought into a community.
  • Solar lamps are sustainable and are better for the environment than kerosene.
