Cambodia House
There is a great need for improved housing in many areas throughout Cambodia, where families are living in extremely overcrowded spaces, on dirt floors, and under leaking tarpaulins. Building a home for a family in Cambodia will give them a new lease on life, with many positive outcomes. Families are carefully selected through relationship with existing ministries in their area, and according to their income, number of children, and current living conditions. Your team will fundraise the full cost of the house, and then you will be involved in building a new home from the ground up. This house will be built in the local style, constructed primarily from wood with a raised floor and a corrugated iron roof. You will also work together with the family, and any members of the local community who wish to help. Each house will take around five days to complete, under the guidance of an experienced foreman.
The Need
Economic: Owning a good home helps leverage families out of poverty. Instead of using funds for repairs or treating illness, families can purchase resources for school and other necessities.
Educational: A child without a home is three times more likely not to attend school, while a stable home environment encourages learning. Children are more likely to both attend and stay in school.
Health: Homeless children are twice as likely to suffer from asthma, ear infections, stomach, and speech problems. In addition, moving off a dirt floor substantially reduces incidences of sickness.
Social: Children without adequate shelter suffer more from mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and withdrawal, with a stable home life strengthening emotional well being.
Spiritual: Families struggling to keep their children safe and dry each night feel trapped. They find it difficult to see beyond their situation. However by building a house for them, this practical demonstration of God’s love inspires them to give back.
